INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
Proceedings (Collection of Papers)
Scientific-Professional Society for Disaster Risk Management (SPS-DRM) and International Institute for Disaster Research (IDR)
Publisher: Scientific-Professional Society for Disaster Risk Management (SPS-DRM) and the International Institute for Disaster Research (IDR)
Proceedings (Collection of Papers) are intended to further the progress of science by reporting original research and review papers in the fields of disaster risk management, civil protection, safety, security, risk, resilience, emergency management, and related areas. Authors are expected to follow the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. Data fabrication and falsification are strictly prohibited. Plagiarism constitutes scientific misconduct and is not acceptable; submissions may be screened for similarity/plagiarism. Authors and co-authors are expected to make reasonable efforts to verify findings before submission and to retain all underlying research data and documentation for verification even after publication. Failure to retain data may be regarded as misconduct.
Submission policy
Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the same work has not been published, is not under review, and will not be submitted elsewhere while it is under consideration for these Proceedings. Submission must be approved by all authors and, where applicable, by the institution where the work was carried out. Any person cited as a personal communication must approve such citation; written authorization may be requested by the editors.
Authorship and contributions
Authorship must reflect real scholarly contributions and be assigned transparently and fairly. Authorship must not be granted based on status, seniority, institutional position, or administrative involvement alone. To be listed as an author, each author must meet all of the following requirements: (1) substantive intellectual contribution to the work (e.g., conception/design; data collection; data analysis; interpretation); (2) active participation in manuscript development through drafting key sections or providing critical revisions that improve intellectual content; (3) final approval of the version to be published; and (4) responsibility and accountability for the integrity of the work, including cooperation in investigating and resolving any questions related to accuracy, ethics, or research integrity. Contributors who do not meet these criteria should be acknowledged (e.g., technical support, proofreading/language editing, administrative assistance, general supervision without intellectual input), with their consent where appropriate.
Contributor roles (CRediT)
Authors are encouraged to include a brief Author Contributions statement using standardized CRediT roles, such as: Conceptualization, Methodology, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Investigation, Resources, Writing – Original Draft, Writing – Review & Editing, Visualization, Supervision, Project Administration, Funding Acquisition.
Unacceptable authorship practices
Guest/gift authorship (including individuals who did not contribute meaningfully) and ghost authorship (excluding individuals who did contribute substantially) are not acceptable. Any attempt to misrepresent authorship may result in editorial action, which may include pausing processing until clarification, rejection, publication of a correction, or retraction where necessary, consistent with publication-ethics principles.
Changes to authorship (additions, removals, order)
Any change to the author list (adding/removing authors or changing author order) must be requested by the corresponding author with a clear justification and confirmed in writing by all authors, including any author being added or removed. Processing may be paused until the matter is resolved, and the editors may request evidence that all listed authors meet the authorship conditions.
Role of the corresponding author
The corresponding author is the main contact with the editors and is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the manuscript and major revisions, keeping co-authors informed of editorial correspondence and decisions, ensuring authorship details (names, affiliations, emails, ORCID where available) are accurate, and coordinating the consolidated response to reviewer/editor comments when revisions are requested.
How to submit
Manuscripts should be submitted through the designated submissions link for the Proceedings (if available) or via email as specified in the Call for Papers / conference instructions. Please ensure that the submission includes: (1) the full manuscript file; (2) title page with author names, affiliations, and contact details; (3) an abstract and keywords; and (4) any tables/figures in acceptable quality.
Manuscript length
The usual length of a paper should be restricted to 8,000 words, unless otherwise stated in the Call for Papers. Longer papers may be considered by the editorial team when justified by scope and content.
List of symbols
Where relevant, the manuscript should include a list of all symbols used in the paper. Symbols should be identified typographically (for the printer) rather than mathematically. This list may not appear in the final publication, but it helps avoid processing delays.
Footnotes
Text footnotes should be avoided whenever possible. If they must be used, indicate them by superscript lower-case letters in the text.
References (APA 6th)
References must be prepared in APA 6th (American Psychological Association) style, using author–date citations in the text. Provide a complete reference list at the end of the manuscript and ensure consistency between in-text citations and the reference list. When available, include DOI for journal articles; if no DOI is available, provide the publisher or journal home page URL when appropriate.
Tables and figures
Tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order of appearance in the text and include a short descriptive caption. Table footnotes should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters. Figures should also be numbered in the order of appearance and include short descriptive captions. Line drawings and charts should be prepared in high quality with lettering large enough to remain legible after reduction. Color illustrations may be accepted; any additional costs (if applicable) are covered by the authors unless stated otherwise in the Call for Papers.
Reprints/offprints
Reprints may be purchased; quotations will be provided by the publisher upon request.
